                  Annual Report  for the year ended March 31,2000             

The Executive Committee has pleasure in presenting the Annual Report alongwith Audited
Accounts of the Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS) for the year ending on March 31, 2000.


THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) of the WPPS was last held on November 26, 1999 at 22 Sunder Nagar, New Delhi-110 003.

OFFICE OF THE WHEAT PRODUCTS PROMOTION SOCIETY :

 

The Registered office of the WPPS continued to be at 8381 Roshanara Road, Delhi.
However, for operational purpose the office work continued from 902,New Delhi House,
27,Barkakhamba Road, New Delhi-110 001 until March 31,2000. However, with effect
from April 1,2000 for operational purposes, the office was shifted to C-8/8281,
Vasant Kunj, New Delhi-110 070

 

BANKERS:

 

The Bankers of the WPPS continue to be the State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur and
ABM Amro Bank. In order to facilitate easy operation, WPPS closed account with the
ABM Amro Bank and opened a new account with ICICI Bank closer to the operational
office premises.

 

Executive Committee Meetings :
The Executive Committee held 3 meetings during the year. However, in addition the Subcommittee of the Executive Committee also met a few times to transact business of urgent nature.

 

ACTIVITIES DURING THE YEAR:

 

Draft paper for Wheat Policy : The subject of Wheat Policy had been under discussions
for sometimes amongst members of Wheat Production Promotion Society. In the absence of either a short or a long term National Wheat Policy; it was considered most appropriate that the wheat based industries provide consolidated views as "DRAFT WHEAT POLICY" (DWP) for consideration of various concerned Government of India's Ministries including Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, as such, a highly knowledgeable persons who had retired as a senior bureacurat had agreed to assist WPPS in the project. Therefore, a Core Group, which was set up for this task by the Executive Committee of the WPPS, finalized the DWP after incorporating feasible suggestions of the members of the WPPS and with approval of the Executive Committee.

To Proceed further, apart from circulation of final version of the DWP to all the members of the WPPS, the DWP was circulated to all concerned GOI's Ministries and organization and various allied organizations including Confederation of Indian Industries, Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, PHD Chambers of Commerce & Industry, India Grains, and Institute of Economic Growth, etc.
 

Monograph : WPPS continued to explore the possibilities of a project related to Wheat Monograph. As such a number of meetings were held with concerned senior officials at, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) regarding procurement of different samples of wheat during procurement season. However, due to change of guards at the IARI, this project could not make progress.

 

Banking Institute: The WPPS continues to explore possibilities of setting up of a Baking Institute in
north India with various authorities. WPPS is also exploring the feasibility if this project could be set up in collaboration with the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering.

 

International Wheat Seminar : The Executive Committee decided to take the leadership role in organization of the proposed "International Seminar on "Wheat-Farm to Foods-First Decade of the New Millennium" on September 15-16, 2000 at Hotel Taj Residency, Bangalore.This will be the first Seminar that will be organized on an International Scale.

 

New Membership : In order to broadbase the membership of the WPPS and widen the scope of its activities, the WPPS continued to invite concerned organizations for enrollment as Associate/Ordinary Members. As such, following new members were enrolled :

 

1. M/s R.R. Flour Mills Pvt. Ltd., Gwalior
2. M/s Wheat Product Company, Guwhati

3.  DFM Foods Ltd., Delhi
4. Gujarat Roller Flour Millers' Association, Ahmedabad.
 

COOPERATION FROM OTHER ORGANIZATION

The Executive Committee places on record its deep appreciation of the cooperation and assistance received from various Government Bodies, Ministries, Public and Private Sector organization, Agricultural Universities, U.S. Wheat Associates and WPPS members and other in carrying on the activities of the Society for the promotion of wheat based foods industries.

OBITURY :


The Executive Committee wishes to place on record the untimely demise of its renewed member, Mr. Mohan Lal, former president of Tamilnadu Roller Flour Millers'   Association.
The work of WPPS continues to get recognition as an All India Body engaged looking after the diverse interests of the wheat based industries. This has been possible due to cohesive functioning of the Society with fullest cooperation from all its member and the Executive Committee and timely guidance received from our patrons, Mr. T.S. Broca and Dr. B.L.Amla.
